Ownership

TVN24 is Poland's leading commercial 24-hour news channel, launched on 9 August 2001 by the private TVN Group (founded 1995 by Mariusz Walter, Jan Wejchert and Bruno Valsangiacomo). Through a chain of acquisitions, TVN passed to US broadcaster Scripps Networks Interactive (2015), which was absorbed by Discovery, Inc. (2018) and then merged into Warner Bros. Discovery (2022); TVN/TVN24 is thus ultimately owned by the American media group Warner Bros. Discovery, which decided to retain rather than sell it.

Funding

It is financed commercially through advertising, cable/satellite carriage fees and subscription bundling, with no licence-fee or state support; it is a profit-making private channel backed by its US corporate parent.

Affiliation & stance

As a privately and foreign (US) owned commercial broadcaster with no party or government control, TVN24 is correctly classified as INDEPENDENT. It is editorially independent and was notably at odds with Poland's former PiS government, which sought (unsuccessfully) to force a change in its ownership.

In 15 regions of Russia, restrictions on the sale of fuel were introduced for 24 hours

At least 15 regions in Russia implemented fuel sales restrictions on June 23 due to a fuel shortage caused by attacks on oil refining facilities by Ukrainian drones. The restrictions include limiting fuel purchases to specific volumes per person and banning refueling into cans. These measures were introduced in major regions such as Khanty-Mansiysk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Penza, Omsk, Voronezh, Murmansk, and Krasnoyarsk. Authorities cited the need to prevent artificial shortages and excessive demand. In Irkutsk Oblast, some gas stations imposed limits while others stopped operating entirely. Governor Igor Kobzev initially linked the fuel shortage to drone strikes but later removed this statement. In Vladimir Oblast, residents were urged to reduce car travel, and in North Ossetia, authorities ordered the creation of an emergency fuel reserve. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak described the situation as 'not simple but controlled,' attributing regional restrictions to temporary logistical issues. Fuel sales have effectively halted in Crimea after an attack on a logistics hub in the Kerch Strait, with the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service also禁止

Ukraine reports two dead after night attacks by Russia, with the death toll in Kiev rising to 30.

At least two people were killed and eight injured in Russian air strikes on the Sumy region and Kryvyj Rih in Ukraine during the night of Thursday to Friday, according to Ukrainian authorities. This follows a large-scale Russian attack on Kyiv earlier in the week which killed at least 30 people and injured around 100 others. In response to the attacks, Ukraine conducted missile strikes on Belgorod in Russia, causing a fire at an energy facility and killing one woman, according to Russian media. The overnight strike on the city of Romny in the Sumy region hit a residential building, killing two women and injuring a man, reported regional administrator Oleh Hryhorov via Telegram. Another seven people were injured in a missile strike on Kryvyj Rih, according to military city administrator Oleksandr Vilkul. In Kyiv, teams discovered three more dead bodies during the night, bringing the total number of victims to 30, according to Reuters citing Ukrainian health authorities. Kyiv's military administrator Tymur Tkačenko stated that the attack injured 99 people. Moscow claimed the extensive attack was a response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, including those carried

Hail, storms and downpours, what awaits Poland in the coming days

Poland is expected to experience a mix of weather conditions over the next five days (June 30-July 4). After a record-breaking heatwave, cooler temperatures are arriving but accompanied by thunderstorms and hail. The high-pressure system has moved over the Balkans, while warm tropical air masses remain in southern and central Poland. A low-pressure system called Xanthippe, centered near the Arctic, is pushing cold polar air masses from the Atlantic toward Europe, affecting regions from Spain through France, Germany, central and southern Poland, the Balkans, and Ukraine. On Tuesday, moderate to heavy cloud cover and rainfall are expected across most of the country, with thunderstorms and hail possible in the south and Lower Silesia. Temperatures will range between 25°C and 35°C. Wednesday brings more rain, including potential thunderstorms with hail, and slightly lower temperatures. Thursday is forecasted to be drier, with light showers in the southeast. Friday sees continued rain and slightly cooler temperatures, followed by dry and mild conditions on Saturday.

The TK judge elected in June asked the president

Sławomir Patyra, newly elected judge to Poland's Constitutional Tribunal (TK), has written to President Andrzej Duda requesting a date to take his judicial oath in the president's presence. Patyra was selected by a majority in the Sejm (lower house of parliament) on June 11, receiving 235 votes out of 424 cast, with opposition parties including PiS opposing his appointment. The issue centers around the requirement for judges to swear their oaths before the president, which some judges have already done while others—appointed earlier this year—have taken their oaths at a ceremony in the Senate, bypassing the presidential presence. This has led to a dispute over the legitimacy of those oaths, with Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski refusing to allow those who swore their oaths without the president to participate in rulings.

Trzaskowski announced the resignation of two vice-presidents of Warsaw

Alexander Leo: If something is not in their mind, the prosecution is politicized

The article discusses the controversy surrounding the 'two towers' case, where the prosecutor's office in Warsaw decided to suspend the investigation due to lack of evidence of a criminal act. The case emerged in 2019 and relates to abandoned plans by a company linked to the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party to build two skyscrapers on a plot in Warsaw. Austrian businessman Gerald Birgfellner claims that President Jarosław Kaczyński deceived him during the investment preparations. During a TVN24 show, MP Aleksandra Leo from the Center party criticized the Polish ruling party for selectively judging the prosecutor’s office, stating that if it aligns with their interests, they call it good, but if it doesn’t, they accuse it of being politicized. She pointed out that this politicization occurred under former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro. In contrast, MP Kazimierz Smoliński from PiS argued that both the current and previous prosecutors made correct decisions, emphasizing that the decision was consistent with past rulings.

In the tropical Pacific, El Niño conditions have set in, researchers say.

The article reports that researchers from New Zealand’s Earth Sciences organization (ESNZ) have identified conditions consistent with the El Niño climate phenomenon in the tropical Pacific. They warn that impacts on New Zealand’s weather are likely to intensify over the coming months. The ESNZ joined other organizations in Australia, Japan, and the U.S. in confirming the development of El Niño, which is expected to reach strong intensity between July and September. The effects are projected to peak during the Southern Hemisphere summer, spanning late 2023 into early 2024. According to lead researcher Chris Brandolini, this El Niño event is at least comparable in strength to five of the strongest recorded El Niños in modern history. The article outlines regional rainfall expectations, noting potential below-average precipitation in some areas and above-normal levels in others. It also mentions possible temperature fluctuations and increased wind variability later in the year. Additionally, it notes two lower-probability risks: sudden stratospheric warming and the occurrence of a tropical cyclone outside the typical season, both historically linked to El Niño. Brandolini connects the

Black water in the White River, the decision of the mayor, the president of the dairy to "liquidate the plant"

The article reports on a dispute between local authorities and the owner of a dairy plant in Bielsk Podlaski, Poland. The local county office has restricted the integrated waste discharge permit for the plant, citing concerns over untreated wastewater polluting the nearby White River. Residents have complained about the river’s black color and foul odor, which they attribute to the dairy factory. The plant’s CEO, Olgierd Michał Meysztowicz, announced plans to relocate the entire facility and sell 12 hectares of land, resulting in the loss of 150 jobs. Local authorities hope the CEO will reconsider and instead modernize the existing wastewater treatment plant. The issue highlights ongoing environmental concerns and potential economic impacts.

Lukashenko is trying to "hide" from Putin.

The article discusses Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's efforts to reduce his dependence on Russia, particularly after recent tensions with Moscow and Kyiv. It highlights his visit to China shortly after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a closed summit, portraying it as a desperate geopolitical maneuver to secure support while balancing pressures from both sides. The author suggests that Lukashenko seeks to maintain stability within his regime by avoiding direct involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which could threaten domestic order. The article also notes that Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s emphasis on protecting Belarusian sovereignty might serve Beijing’s economic interests, especially given Belarus’s strategic position as a land corridor to the EU. The piece frames Lukashenko’s actions as a test of China’s willingness to provide support amid growing regional instability.

A mother and son were killed at a railroad crossing.

A tragic accident occurred at a railway crossing in Susk Nowy, Mazowieckie, where a 39-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son died after their Hyundai car collided with a tram carrying 20 passengers. The decision to discontinue the investigation is not yet final, but the findings indicate the driver's actions were the cause of the crash.

The wind was knocking down the trees in Piggly Wiggly

Strong winds in Świnoujście caused trees to fall, blocking roads and pedestrian crossings. The wind speeds reached up to 61 km/h in the area, with some trees falling onto streets. Local firefighters received four reports related to the effects of the severe weather. According to meteorological data, wind speeds in northern Poland reached up to 79 km/h in places like Łeba, Kołobrzeg, and Ustka, while on Hel they reached 65 km/h. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first and second-level warnings for strong winds. The cause of the strong winds was attributed to a stream of rapidly moving polar air at the edge of the low-pressure system Zoe and the Azores High over western Europe.
