Ownership
Gazeta Wyborcza is published by Agora S.A., a Warsaw-based media group listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1999. The paper was launched on 8 May 1989 out of the Polish Round Table Agreement, originally as the press organ of the Solidarity movement for that year's semi-free elections. Agora is a publicly traded, employee- and management-influenced company (the Agora Holding cooperative of founding journalists historically held a controlling voting stake); long-time editor Adam Michnik remains its editor-in-chief.
Funding
It is financed commercially through newspaper sales, the Wyborcza.pl digital subscription paywall, and advertising, as part of Agora's diversified media, cinema (Helios) and outdoor-advertising business. It receives no state or party subsidy.
Affiliation & stance
Editorially it is liberal and centre-left, and was the leading critical voice against the 2015-2023 PiS government, but it is privately and commercially owned with no party, church or state control. That independent ownership and self-sustaining commercial funding make it INDEPENDENT despite its clear editorial lean.

Hail, storms and downpours, what awaits Poland in the coming days
Poland is expected to experience a mix of weather conditions over the next five days (June 30-July 4). After a record-breaking heatwave, cooler temperatures are arriving but accompanied by thunderstorms and hail. The high-pressure system has moved over the Balkans, while warm tropical air masses remain in southern and central Poland. A low-pressure system called Xanthippe, centered near the Arctic, is pushing cold polar air masses from the Atlantic toward Europe, affecting regions from Spain through France, Germany, central and southern Poland, the Balkans, and Ukraine. On Tuesday, moderate to heavy cloud cover and rainfall are expected across most of the country, with thunderstorms and hail possible in the south and Lower Silesia. Temperatures will range between 25°C and 35°C. Wednesday brings more rain, including potential thunderstorms with hail, and slightly lower temperatures. Thursday is forecasted to be drier, with light showers in the southeast. Friday sees continued rain and slightly cooler temperatures, followed by dry and mild conditions on Saturday.
"Such a gift for Santa". There was an announcement about Trzaskowski.
The article discusses plans by organizers to hold a referendum in Warsaw regarding the removal of Rafał Trzaskowski as mayor. Maciej Wilk, president of the association 'Tak dla CPK' and the Polish Development Foundation, stated that collecting over 132,000 valid signatures from Warsaw residents would be a significant organizational challenge. The organizers aim to collect more than 150,000 signatures to account for potential rejections during verification. They plan to start the official collection in late July, preparing volunteers, funding, and materials beforehand. The campaign will primarily take place on the streets, with social media used for mobilization. The referendum could potentially occur around Christmas if the timeline allows. Wilk mentioned that the situation at the Southern Hospital was a catalyst but not the sole reason for the initiative.
The prosecution wants to question the notary in the matter of Nawrocki's bachelorette.
The regional prosecutor's office in Gdańsk-Sródmieście is continuing its investigation into the purchase of a flat by Karol Nawrocki, focusing on whether the transaction involved fraud under Article 286 of the Penal Code. A key step involves questioning the notary who handled the deal, but this requires court approval to lift professional secrecy. The court has granted preliminary approval, though it is not yet final. If the notary appeals, the case would move to a higher court. Otherwise, the prosecutor will schedule the interrogation. The issue stems from a report by Onet during the election campaign, which revealed that Nawrocki, then a presidential candidate, owned two flats, contrary to his claims. He argued he acquired the second apartment legally through an agreement with Jerzy Ż., who later moved to a care home. PiS MP Przemysław Czarnek claimed that Ż. purchased the flat from the city at a discount using a loan from Nawrocki, with a notarial deed confirming the sale.

They checked how many people left their "life traces" in Warsaw
The Central Statistical Office (GUS) has released preliminary results from an experimental study estimating the number of people residing in Warsaw based on 'life traces' recorded in administrative registers. These traces include data such as employment, tax payments, social benefits, healthcare usage, and education. The findings indicate that over two million people, including more than 300,000 foreigners, were identified as living in Warsaw as of December 31, 2025—up by around 34,000 compared to the previous year. Foreigners accounted for 14.5% of those identified in Warsaw, while nationwide, approximately 2.3 million foreigners were estimated to reside in Poland, representing about six percent of the total population. The study highlights that foreign residents are most concentrated in major cities like Wrocław, where they made up nearly 20% of the population. The results align with demographic analyses used in shaping Warsaw’s future development strategy.

The child was left in a heated car, the police broke the window
Jeden z funkcjonariuszy wmaszerował do środka i pomógł w otwarciu samochodu. Policja opublikowała nagranie interwencji oraz ostrzegła, że temperatury w zamkniętym samochodzie mogą być śmiertelnie niebezpieczne.

Ordination of bishops without papal approval.
The Society of Saint Pius X has announced the ordination of four new bishops without the approval of the Pope, citing disagreements with modern Catholic Church leadership. This action follows a similar incident in the past that led to excommunication. The Vatican has warned against schism and excommunication, with Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández cautioning the group. The prefect of the Doctrine of the Faith called the ordinations 'an act of schism' and referenced a 1988 encyclical by Pope John Paul II. The Society’s leader, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, had previously performed unauthorized ordinations, leading to unresolved canonical status. While some concessions were made in 2016, the current move by the Society’s general superior, Father Davide Pagliarani, frames the decision as a higher necessity.
