The second stage of the 32nd race in Slovenia will take the cyclists from Radelj ob Dravi to Ormož (181.2 km). Laurence Pithie (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe), the winner of the first stage, is driving in the green jersey of the leader today, and the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe team will probably look towards the stage victory after the perfect split in Rogaška Slatina.
The first stage of the Race of Slovenia
In the course of the 2nd stage of the race around Slovenia (Radlje ob Dravi Ormož, 181.8 km)
117 km to the finish line: A group of five cyclists, including three competitors from Slovenian continental teams - Gal Oblak from Factor Racing, Marcel Skok, a member of the Novo mesto Cycling Club and Mihael Štajnar from Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana, are still leading the race.
137 km to the finish: The average speed of the stage is 44.037 km/h. The cyclists covered 45.3 km in 1 hour, 1 minute and 47 seconds.
145 km to the finish line: The running group with five cyclists, including three Slovenians (Gal Oblak from the Factor Racing team, Marcel Skok, a member of the Novo mesto Cycling Club, and Mihael Štajnar from the Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana), is increasing the advantage over the main group, which on fairly flat terrain is obviously not interested in picking up the pace for now.
151 km to the finish line: A group of five cyclists is still at the head of the race, including three Slovenians - Gal Oblak (Factor Racing), Marcel Skok (Cycling Club Novo mesto) and Mihael Štajnar (Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana), and two foreign cyclists, the debutant in the race Po Slovenia, Zsombor Palumby (Team United Shipping) and Kacper Majewski (Wibatech Lubelskie Perła).
163 km to the finish: The running group has already broken through the first mountain goal of the stage, Janževski vrh, a category 3 climb. The most points were collected by the Hungarian Zsombor Palumby (Team United Shipping), who was the first to cross the summit and won three points.
165 km to the finish line: The fugitive five, in which as many as three Slovenian cyclists (Cloud, Stajnar, Jump) still has a weak two-minute advantage over the main group, which has already caught Zigo Hamun from Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana, who failed to break into the fugitive group.
169 km to the finish line: The running group of five - Gal Oblak (Factor Racing), Marcel Skok (Cycling Club Novo mesto), Mihael Štajnar (Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana), Zsombor Palumby (Team United Shipping) and Kacper Majewski (Wibatech Lubelskie Perła Polskisi) - has gained 1.45 minutes of lead from the main event, while Žiga Hamun (Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana) is 20 seconds behind.
172 km to the target:
After five kilometres, a group of five runners, consisting of three Slovenian teams: Gal Oblak (Factor Racing), Marcel Skok (Cycling Club Novo mesto), Mihael Štajnar (Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana), Hungarian Zsombor Palumby (Team United Shipping) and Polish Kacper Majewski (Wibatech Lubelskie Perła Polski) took the lead of the race. In the background, they are trying to join another young Slovenian cyclist Žiga Hamun (Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana).
11.45 - Official start of the stage! As we expected, attempts to escape began immediately. The most active were seven cyclists, and it seems that four will succeed. After a poor five kilometers of riding, they have a minimal advantage. Already in the first part of the stage, the cyclists are waiting for the ascent to the Janževski summit, the mountain goal of the third category, and then the route will calm down and go past Maribor, Ptuja and Zavrča - in the last two places there will also be flying targets.
11.30am - Cycling fans, welcome to today's race in Slovenia.
Prognosis for the second stage of the race around Slovenia
The start of the stage will be bumpy and will offer an opportunity to escape, because in the first part the cyclists will climb to the top of Janževski peak, the mountain goal of the third category, and then the route will calm down and pass by Maribor, Ptuj and Zavrča - in the last two places there will also be flying goals.
The finish will again feature the traditional climb to Jerusalem, a category four mountain finish that can dilute the group before the finish in Ormoz, but there will also be some shorter climbs in the finish that could further shorten the main.
In the green jersey of the leader, New Zealander Laurence Pithie, who was the fastest in the first stage, will start.
3D representation of the stage
Bogdan Fink: "A slightly longer stage on the Drava Cycle Route. We start in Radljah ob Dravi, for the first time in history. The goal is at the best host of last year's performance, in Ormož. The first part of the stage is an opportunity to escape.
