Due to the invasion of poisonous mushrooms, Berlin closed parks and sports facilities

Berlin has closed parks and sports facilities due to an infestation of toxic caterpillars, which have spread across urban areas. The caterpillars, known as oak processionary caterpillars, have tiny hairs containing a protein called thaumetopoein. Contact with these hairs can cause skin reactions, allergic shock, and breathing difficulties in humans and animals. The infestation has affected neighborhoods like Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, particularly near the Jungfernheide Park. Residents report taking cortisone to alleviate symptoms, and some criticize the local authorities for slow response.
