Japanese industrial robotics giant Yaskawa has completed the construction of two new facilities next to its existing operation in Kočevje, south Slovenia. The investment, including a new European distribution centre and an upgraded robotic system production line, is valued at €32 million.
Yaskawa's campus in the area of Kočevje and nearby Ribnica now combines three key units: the YER (YASKAWA Europe Robotics) robot factory, the ERDC (European Robot Distribution Center), and YRS (YASKAWA Ristro), a company providing turnkey solutions for the implementation of robots in various technological processes for all of Europe.
The company says these form a modern development, production, and distribution centre for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.
The campus is equipped with innovative production processes, system solutions, and automated transport and storage systems. These are the result of Slovenian engineering expertise.
The investment strengthens the company's role as one of the key European hubs for the production, distribution, and development of advanced robotic solutions.
Investment to drive expansion
As the ground was broken on the investment in April 2024, Hubert Kosler, director of Yaskawa Europe Robotics, said the investment would allow the company to expand its activity in the EMEA region.
Until now, the company had to send the robots and controllers produced in Slovenia to warehouses in Germany and Sweden for further distribution.
The new distribution centre will allow them to distribute their products, including those imported from Japan, directly to end customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
With the new building for the engineering and production of robotic systems, the company will expand the programme through which they develop robots for various technological processes and technologies.
Yaskawa has been present in Slovenia for more than 30 years.
