Talks between Iran and the U.S. in Switzerland suspended

Swiss authorities have announced that preliminary talks aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East have been postponed following the cancellation of a trip by JD Vance, the US Vice President, to Switzerland. The talks were intended to involve the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan. Swiss foreign affairs officials stated that preparations for the discussions continue.

Svissnesk stjórnvöld hafa tilkynnt að fyrirhuguðum viðræðum um nýjan stofnsamning til að binda enda á stríðið í Mið-Austurlöndum hefur verið frestað, nokkrum klukkustundum eftir að ferðalagi JD Vance, varaforseta Bandaríkjanna, til Sviss var sömuleiðis frestað.

„Fyrirhuguðum viðræðum á milli Bandaríkjanna, Íran, Katar og Pakistan hefur verið frestað,” sagði svissneska utanríkisráðuneytið í skilaboðum til AFP-fréttastofunnar.

„Sviss er áfram tilbúið til að veita aðstoð í tengslum við þessar viðræður. Undirbúningsvinnan í Burgenstock heldur áfram,” sagði þar einnig.

Ekkert kom fram um nýja dagsetningu fyrir viðræðurnar.
