The Firebirds equalled their worst World Cup record, which only happened in the 2018 final.

Croatia's national football team lost their opening match at the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, losing 4-2 to England. The team conceded four goals, matching their previous negative record set during the 2018 World Cup final against France. This was only the second time Croatia has conceded four goals in a World Cup match. Ovo je bio tek drugi put u povijesti da je Hrvatska primila četiri gola na utakmici Svjetskog prvenstva. Prvi i dosad jedini put to se dogodilo u finalu u Rusiji 2018. kad je Francuska također slavila 4-2.

Što se najvećih poraza razlikom tiče, rekord ostaje polufinale iz Katara 2022. kad je Argentina dobila 3-0, što je jedini hrvatski poraz od tri ili više golova razlike na Mundijalima.
