Dolgoletni sekretar biatlonskih tekmovanj na Pokljuki in član izvršnega odbora Mednarodne biatlonske zveze (IBU) Tim Farčnik je potrdil kandidaturo za novega predsednika krovne zveze. Odločitev bo padla na volilnem kongresu, ki bo od 17. do 20. septembra v nemškem Berchtesgadnu. Farčnik je po naših neuradnih informacijah celo edini kandidat!
Dolgo se je v biatlonskih krogih najavljala tudi kandidatura slovitega norveškega biatlonskega asa Oleja Einarja Bjørndalna , a se ta po zadnjih podatkih v boj za nasledstvo Šveda Olleja Dahlina , ki je organizacijo vodil zadnjih osem let, ni vključil.
»Lahko potrdim svojo kandidaturo in vesel sem, da imam v predsedniški tekmi široko podporo,« je ob robu sestanka organizatorjev tekem svetovnega pokala v estonskem Otepääju pritrdil 46-letni Kranjčan, oče treh otrok, ki za predsedniško mesto kandidira z več kot četrtstoletnimi biatlonskimi izkušnjami.
V organizacijo tekmovanj na Rudnem polju je vpet že v najstniških letih, uradno pa se je ekipi pridružil med študijem na Ekonomski fakulteti leta 1998. Kasneje je opravljal v različne službe v organizaciji svetovnih pokalov in prvenstev na Pokljuki, največ na področju marketinga, od leta 2020 pa je tudi generalni sekretar organizacijskega odbora in bil glavni operativec na SP v težkem koronskem letu 2021.
