This week’s inquiry into the government’s proposed tax reforms became something of an “Airing of Grievances” for the business lobby, in which its members bemoaned that making business sellers pay slightly more tax on their capital gains was going to ruin the economy — claims that economists easily debunked.

The Business Council of Australia, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (or “BCAACCICOSBOA” for short) told us how they really felt, with a joint statement demanding the reforms be stopped.
