Thessaloniki: One conviction and two acquittals for the fire in Philyros

One person was convicted and two were acquitted for the fire that broke out last week between Filo and Peukon, burning a total of 22 hectares of forest land. Three men working on road reconstruction in the area were accused of negligence-related arson. The fire appears to have started from sparks generated during the cutting of a metal beam using a wheel. The Single-Member Penal Court of Thessaloniki sentenced the operator of the wheel to two months' imprisonment with suspension, acquitting the other two, including the project supervisor. Ένα άτομο καταδικάστηκε και δύο αθωώθηκαν για την πυρκαγιά που ξέσπασε την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα μεταξύ Φιλύρου και Πεύκων, καίγοντας συνολικά 22 στρέμματα δασικής έκτασης.

Για την υπόθεση είχαν καταστεί κατηγορούμενοι, για εμπρησμό από αμέλεια, τρεις άνδρες- μέλη συνεργείου που εκτελούσε εργασίες ανακατασκευής δρόμου στην περιοχή. Η φωτιά φαίνεται να ξεκίνησε από σπινθήρες που εκτοξεύτηκαν κατά τη χρήση τροχού για την κοπή μεταλλικού στηθαίου.

Το Μονομελές Πλημμελειοδικείο Θεσσαλονίκης , όπου παραπέμφθηκαν να δικαστούν, καταδίκασε σε φυλάκιση 2 μηνών, με αναστολή, τον χειριστή του τροχού, αθωώνοντας τους άλλους δύο -μεταξύ αυτών τον επιβλέποντα μηχανικό του έργου.

Για την κατάσβεση της πυρκαγιάς κινητοποιήθηκαν ισχυρές επίγειες και εναέριες δυνάμεις της Πυροσβεστικής Υπηρεσίας.
