Ένας άνδρας , ηλικίας 62 ετών, ο οποίος ομολόγησε τους φόνους οκτώ γυναικών σε μια παραθαλάσσια ζώνη κοντά στη Νέα Υόρκη , καταδικάστηκε σήμερα σε ισόβια κάθειρξη, χωρίς δικαίωμα αποφυλάκισης υπό όρους, μετέδωσαν αμερικανικά ΜΜΕ.
Στις αρχές Απριλίου, ο Ρεξ Χιούερμαν δήλωσε ένοχος για την απαγωγή, τον βασανισμό και τη δολοφονία επτά γυναικών στο Λονγκ Άιλαντ το διάστημα μεταξύ 1993-2010. Ομολόγησε επίσης έναν όγδοο φόνο για τον οποίο δεν είχαν ασκηθεί διώξεις σε βάρος του.

Ορισμένοι παρατηρητές εκτιμούν πως η έρευνα της υπόθεσης, η οποία αποτέλεσε αντικείμενο διάφορων ντοκιμαντέρ, θα είχε προχωρήσει ταχύτερα, εάν τα θύματα δεν ήταν ιερόδουλες.
