Play golf for a good cause at the Palla Open

The Palla Open golf tournament was held for the sixth time today and has grown significantly since its first edition. Páll Örn Líndal mentions that the idea for the tournament originated during the COVID era when they were unable to hold their usual events. The tournament is organized in cooperation with the Mosfellsbær Golf Club and uses their largest course. This year's event took place at Sumarbúða Gló in Reykjadal and will move to a new venue and playing area. Páll Örn notes that bookings have already been made for this year and plans to use both Hlíðarvöll and Bakkakot for future events,

Gunnlaugur Árni Sveinsson tryggði sér í kvöld keppnisrétt á Opna bandaríska meistaramótinu í golfi, fyrstur íslenskra karlkylfinga, eftir bráðabana á lokaúrtökumótinu á The Lake Golf & Country Club-golfvellinum í Westerville í Ohio.

Gunnlaugur, sem er tvítugur, tryggði sér keppnisrétt á mótinu eftir bráðabana en hann lék hringina tvo á samtals 135 höggum eða níu höggum undir pari og var jafn í öðru sæti ásamt þremur öðrum kylfingum en fjórir efstu kylfingarnir tryggðu sér keppnisrétt á Opna bandaríska meistaramótinu.

Hann fór því í bráðabana ásamt Bandaríkjamönnunum Sam Udovich, J.B Holmes og Vaughn Harber en Gunnlaugur fékk skolla í bráðabananum sem dugði til þess að tryggja sér sæti á Opna bandaríska meistatramótinu.

Opna bandaríska meistaramótið fer fram þann 18.-21. júní á Shinnecock Hills-golfvellinum í New York.

Þær Valdís Þóra Jónsdóttir og Ólafía Þórunn Kristinsdóttir eru einu Íslendingarnir sem hafa áður keppt á Opna bandaríska meistaramótinu en Valdís Þóra tók þátt árið 2017 og Ólafía Þóra árin 2018 og 2019.
