Siri AI is here, and how Apple just gave your old iPhone a big performance boost

South African outlet IOL reports that at Apple's WWDC, Siri was rebranded "Siri AI" in a redesign described as powered by Google Gemini, with deeper integration into iOS and a new macOS called "Golden Gate," plus integration into the iPhone camera app, renamed "Visual Intelligence." The article also states Apple optimised the software so that iPhones dating back to the iPhone 11 will run faster rather than slower. It adds that further WWDC announcements are expected, including a new Apple TV reportedly delayed to align with the new Siri.

As expected, Siri was officially updated by Apple on the first day of the Worldwide Developers Conference ( WWDC ) on Monday.

Now called Siri AI , the massive redesign is now powered by Google Gemini and will be much better integrated into iOS and Mac OS.

The new Mac OS will be called Golden Gate and also be fully integrated with Siri AI.

With Siri AI, it will now be able to fully understand personal context in prompts, unlike previous versions and the current one.

Siri AI Integration and Performance Enhancements in Apple’s Latest Software Rollout

Siri AI will also be fully integrated into the iPhone camera app, now called Visual Intelligence.

General improvements across both macOS and iPhone will be made, with a focus on performance.

This leads into the announcement that Apple has worked hard on optimising its new software rollout to better suit older hardware. What this means is that every iPhone dating back to the 11 will perform faster with the new OS updates. This is in stark contrast to previous OS iterations that generally would slow down the performance of older devices.

That is a tangible improvement across the board, and one that was certainly not expected.

More announcements are expected this week as WWDC, which runs until Friday.

One of the most keenly anticipated hardware announcements is a new Apple TV, which has not been updated since 2022.

According to reports, the  Apple TV  has been ready for release for some time now but has been delayed until the new Siri is also ready. The new Apple TV is said to have Siri AI heavily integrated into its operating system and therefore won’t be fully capable until this software update is ready.
