La salida a bolsa de SpaceX , la empresa aeroespacial de Elon Musk , ha representado el gran evento bursátil del año. En un solo día, la compañía se metió entre las diez más cotizadas del mundo y Musk se convirtió en el primer trillonario (con más de un billón de dólares) de la historia de la humanidad. Pero el fundador de Tesla no fue el único ganador; también hay en España inversores que vieron incrementado su patrimonio gracias a los cohetes y los satélites de SpaceX. Esos son los casos de Sergio Escoté y de Carlos Perea : ambos ingresaron con capital propio en rondas de inversión de años anteriores a la IPO (Oferta Pública Inicial) de este viernes y ahora ven multiplicados esos fondos. Vender ahora sería para ellos un negocio redondo, pero ninguno de los dos lo considera siquiera como una remota posibilidad: « Holdear » es el verbo que ambos repiten ante Crónica y que marca su visión optimista respecto al futuro de este proyecto.
Escoté tiene 36 años y vive en Barcelona . Empezó a emprender en el mundo digital desde adolescente con la compra y venta de dominios web. A los 22 años fundó la compañía Óptima, de marketing digital, y luego creó BestPrice, una fintech que facilita descuentos en compras por Internet. Con amplia liquidez, también invierte en compañías tecnológicas que considera «estratégicas a largo plazo». Desde su mirada «aceleracionista, muy aceleracionista, pro aceleracionista», en su cartera no podía faltar la joya de la corona de Elon Musk.
Pudo entrar en 2023, a través de una Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), es decir una sociedad creada especialmente para esa inversión. El monto mínimo, recuerda, era de entre 50.000 y 100.000 euros. Y si bien no revela de cuánto fue su apuesta inicial, sí calcula que, de vender ahora sus acciones, para conocer la ganancia tendría que multiplicar aquel monto inicial por 12 . «Doce equis», según la jerga.
«Pocos inversores en España tuvieron la oportunidad de hacerlo. Era algo un poco privado. Tenías que tener acceso a unos contactos», aclara este empresario que llegó a millonario mucho antes de los 30 y hasta tuvo un fugaz intento de participación política en Alternativa Joven, el fallido proyecto lanzado por «El Pequeño Nicolás» , con quien se lo ha visto en 2015 en el Camp Nou disfrutando de un clásico entre el Barcelona de Messi y el Real Madrid de Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sergio Escoté «Siempre me ha interesado la vida pública en el sentido amplio: la tecnología, la libertad individual, la innovación, el futuro de España y cómo el país puede ser más competitivo», cuenta sobre su mirada política, pero aclara que aquella experiencia «fue algo muy puntual y que no tuvo recorrido» y que conoce al condenado «Francisco» (Nicolás Gómez Iglesias) desde hace años, sin que tenga «especial relevancia» en su trayectoria. «Mi foco real siempre ha estado en emprender, invertir y construir empresas, especialmente en sectores como internet, inteligencia artificial, espacio y longevidad », destaca el fundador de Óptima, a la cual el Financial Times situó dos años seguidos entre las mil empresas de mayor crecimiento en Europa.
Escoté cree que SpaceX es «una de las compañías más estratégicas del Siglo XXI y tiene una combinación muy difícil de replicar, que es liderazgo tecnológico, ejecución brutal, contratos gubernamentales, Starlink como negocio recurrente y una visión de largo plazo que va mucho más allá de lanzar satélites». La empresa bajó de forma radical los costos de los lanzamientos de cohetes, desplegó sus satélites para ofrecer Internet con Starlink (su principal fuente de ingresos actualmente) y también se fusionó con xAI, de inteligencia artificial (responsable de Grok, el modelo de lenguaje estilo ChatGPT ). Pero esa es solo la foto del presente para el vehículo con el que Musk sueña desarrollar centros de datos orbitales, tirar miles de cohetes más y sembrar en Marte la semilla para que la humanidad pueda convertirse en una especie interplanetaria.
COHETES Y LONGEVIDAD
Todo ese panorama futurista hace juego con las motivaciones de Escoté, que tiene a la (lucha contra la) muerte como principal obsesión personal. «La persona más rica de la historia del mundo va a ser la que logre la inmortalidad biológica», vaticina.
