Producer prices up 5.1% in May

The Index of Production Prices rose by 5.1% in May, accelerating by 1.3 percentage points compared to April, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). The increase was mainly driven by the 'energy' category, which contributed 3.0 percentage points to the overall variation (compared to 2.7 percentage points in April), aligning with a year-on-year rate of 19.5% (17.2% in April). O Índice de Preços na Produção subiu 5,1% em maio, acelerando 1,3 pontos percentuais face a abril, informou esta quinta-feira o Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE).

A aceleração foi maioritariamente explicada pelo agrupamento “energia”, cujo contributo para a variação total aumentou para 3,0 p.p. (era 2,7 p.p. em abril), em linha com uma taxa homóloga de 19,5% (17,2% em abril).

Os bens intermédios deram também um contributo relevante — 1,7 p.p., acima dos 0,8 p.p. do mês anterior — após uma variação homóloga de 4,8% (2,2% em abril).

Os agrupamentos de bens de consumo e bens de investimento contribuíram ambos com 0,2 p.p., com variações homólogas de 0,4% e 1,5%, respetivamente (antes 0,2% e 2,2%).

Em termos mensais, verificou-se uma subida de 1,0%, o que compara com o valor negativo de -0,1% do índice no mesmo mês do ano passado.
