Letoun, který armáda označovala jako VC-25A, dočasně nahradí celkem tři upravené stroje Boeing 747-800 (VC-25B). Dva z nich však budou připravené až v roce 2028. Prezident bude mít zatím k dispozici luxusní letoun, který dostal darem od katarské vlády.

Zatím není jasné, co se stane se starými VC-25A, jelikož podle amerického letectva zůstanou součástí flotily.

„Letadla typu VC-25B (Bridge) se brzy připojí k aktivní flotile pro přepravu vysokých představitelů po boku letadel VC-25A a C-32,“ sdělil CNN mluvčí letectva.

Jako C-32 americké letectvo označuje upravený letoun Boeing 757, který často přepravuje amerického viceprezidenta, první dámu nebo členy vlády.
