Slovenia reverses bans on Israeli PM, ministers

Slovenia's new government, led by Prime Minister Janez Janša, has lifted entry bans on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and two far-right ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. The decision reverses policies implemented by the previous center-left government under Robert Golob, which included banning imports from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and imposing an arms embargo on Israel. The new government stated that these restrictions were 'never actual' and have now been removed.

Janševa Slovenia does not recognise international law and international courts

The article discusses Slovenia's stance on international law and courts since the confirmation of Prime Minister Janez Janša's fourth government. It criticizes Janša's public expressions of friendship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently under indictment by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes. The author argues that Slovenia has become a state that does not recognize valid international law or courts, comparing it to Hungary under Viktor Orbán. The article also mentions concerns over potential diplomatic actions, such as visits to Russia.

Bias read (Left): The article uses strong critical language towards the current government, compares Slovenia to Hungary under Orbán, and frames the government's actions as a rejection of international law and institutions. Janša 4.0 on the European stage

The article comments on the expected style of Slovenian politics on the European stage, suggesting that should Janez Janša return as prime minister he would be more active in European debates than Robert Golob, including through controversial appearances, based on his record in previous terms.

Bias read (Center): The framing emphasises Janša's "controversial appearances," a critical characterisation that subtly casts the right-wing politician in a negative light.

Romana Tomc: The EU knows very well that the Golob was a threat to democracy and the rule of law
