El preinforme de Contraloría respecto de la situación de niños haitianos llegados durante los últimos años al país nos pone en alerta sobre una situación que tiene dos aspectos fundamentales. En primer lugar, la responsabilidad y urgencia que recae en las instituciones públicas por aclarar si hubo irregularidades en los procesos de reunificación familiar. De ser así, se debe definir qué medidas se tomarán para prevenirlo en el futuro y, en caso de que existan vulneraciones de derechos, es prioritario tomar acciones de protección y que se hagan valer las responsabilidades correspondientes. En segundo lugar, esta situación no puede significar que simplemente dejemos de otorgar visas a niños haitianos que requieren reunificarse con sus padres, más aún considerando el contexto que viven en Haití.

Una respuesta responsable requiere buscar el equilibrio entre la necesidad de reunificación familiar y garantías que prevengan irregularidades o situaciones que puedan vulnerar los derechos de esos niños.
