Dutch motorcyclist killed in accident on Belgian circuit

Op het circuit van Zolder in België is een 53-jarige Nederlandse motorrijder omgekomen. De man kwam zwaar ten val op het circuit. Dat melden Belgische media.

De medische hulpdiensten waren snel ter plaatse, maar ze konden de man niet meer redden.

Het ongeval gebeurde maandagmiddag tijdens een oefening 'vrij rijden', meldt VRT Nieuws. De directeur van het circuit zei dat het misging bij een manoeuvre op hoge snelheid. "Vermoedelijk heeft de motorrijder niet juist geschakeld. Hij is met hoge snelheid uit de bocht gevlogen. Een zeer spijtig ongeval."

De medische diensten op het circuit waren snel ter plaatse. "Ze hebben er alles aan gedaan om hem erdoor te krijgen, maar de hulp mocht helaas niet meer baten."

Volgens de regionale omroep L1 komt het slachtoffer uit de omgeving van Maastricht, volgens nog onbevestigde berichten op sociale media uit Elsloo. Het circuit heeft laten weten medeleven te betuigen aan nabestaanden van de overleden man.
