Naučnici iz Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva i Danske nakon viÅ”e od 30 godina rada rijeÅ”ili su važan dio slagalice vezane za teÅ”ke oblike upalne bolesti crijeva (IBD), koja pogađa milione ljudi Å”irom svijeta.

Istraživanje je pokazalo da određena genetska varijanta HLA-DRB1*01:03 može potaknuti stvaranje antitijela koja pogreÅ”no napadaju interleukin 10 (IL-10), ključni protein koji u normalnim uslovima smanjuje upalne procese u organizmu.

Kod osoba s tom varijantom i IBD-om, organizam može razviti antitijela koja neutraliziraju IL-10, čime se gubi njegova zaŔtitna uloga i dolazi do jačih i dugotrajnijih upala crijeva.

U studiji je analizirano oko 4.900 pacijenata i približno 1.000 zdravih ispitanika. Neutralizirajuća antitijela pronađena su samo kod oboljelih, kod oko 3,5 posto njih, Å”to ukazuje na jasnu povezanost s boleŔću.

Stručnjaci ističu da ovo otkriće otvara mogućnost preciznijeg i ciljano usmjerenog liječenja za određenu grupu pacijenata, umjesto dosadaÅ”njih terapija koje uglavnom ublažavaju simptome.
