Nadia Nakai and Moozlie call out performative intimacy: 'Girls be lying'

Rapper Nadia Nakai discusses the normalization of faking orgasms among women in a social media post, questioning why such behavior has become common and emphasizing the need for open communication about intimacy and pleasure.

Rapper Nadia Nakai is currently living her best life, swapping the South African winter for a tropical summer getaway.

She recently took to Instagram to share a series of steamy photos from an undisclosed paradise, aptly captioned: "OUT OF OFFICE". But while she might be physically on vacation, her mind is still working overtime.

In her very next post, the "Naaa Meaan" hitmaker shared a video that tackled a much heavier topic, asking her followers: "Is this conversation long overdue or is this a bigger conversation than most people think?"

In the video, Nakai candidly opens up about female pleasure and the reality of intimacy.

"Wait, hold up! I just saw this Durex post that said almost 60% of women fake their orgasms . I sat down, and I realised... I'm like, hmm, valid! Sounds about right. If I'm being completely honest, I have been there, too.

"And that is why that statistic hit me the way that it did, because why has it become normal to fake it and to pretend?

"We've really made it normal in faking it, like normal. I really feel like a lot of women have these conversations privately with their friends, but not openly at all and honestly, intimacy should not be performative. It should feel real, comfortable and enjoyable for everybody involved.

"We should really normalise honest communication about pleasure. Communication about what we really want instead of pretending like everything is fine. Because, babe, he got his, did you get yours? Cos clearly a lot of people are not fully enjoying the experience," ends Nakai.

Moozlie weighs in

The conversation quickly gained traction on social media, prompting rapper and media personality Moozlie (Nomuzi Mabena) to add her voice to the debate.

Sharing a video of her own, Moozlie laughed and admitted she wasn't at all shocked by the statistics.

Her caption read: "Almost 60% of women in SA don’t orgasm?! To be honest ... I’m not that surprised😅🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve sat thru a lot of 'we listen and we don’t judge' sessions & trust me ... We’ve all been thru it🤭 Right Ladies??"

In the clip, Moozlie elaborates on why so many women find themselves pretending in the bedroom.

"Ladies, let's be honest. There has been more than one occasion where you've had to fake it, and I don't know, maybe that makes us the bad people, but there's definitely come a time where you just had to fake it.

Moozlie explains that women often fake orgasms to avoid bruising their partner's ego, to prevent awkwardness when a well-meaning partner lacks direction, or because giving instruction in the heat of the moment feels too uncomfortable.

"The worst for me is when you've been hyping this thing up in your mind, where you have been engaging with this guy in your mind, and you've been thinking about it and just waiting for the moment to happen.

"And one minute you're on a date, the flirting is right, the energy is good. You know, you and this person, you'll just understand each other, the banter, the wittiness of the jokes, you guys are moving.

"Next thing, one thing leads to another, and it's go time. You guys are doing the thing. By 'you guys' I mean me, by the way.

"The person is just moving fast, my brother, why are you moving so fast, you not even giving me a chance to get into the moment with you.

"I can tell that you're enjoying this, but I'm not enjoying this, but we've kind of been talking about this for a while, so I also don't want to be weird, so I'm just 'Smile Mooz, give a little moan, give a little ooh, aah'."

Ultimately, she admits that women often choose to pretend and just wait for the experience to end, half-jokingly concluding that women contribute to the problem by being dishonest.

"The worst is when you're asked if you are enjoying this, and you're thinking, 'I'm not enjoying this, but I'd rather you finish so it can be done'. I don't know if it's worse when you feel you getting somewhere and next thing the brother is done.

"I don't know, guys, it's really not that shocking to me. I think girls are the problem because we just be lying to much."

Meanwhile, on the Durex Instagram page, some women shared ways in which the situation could be better for women.
