No Verão de 2024, enquanto um e outro planeavam mais uma viagem à Índia, Damon Albarn e Jamie Hewlett perderam os respectivos pais num espaço de apenas dez dias. Inevitavelmente, o álbum que os Gorillaz viriam a gravar a seguir viu-se então atravessado pela ideia da morte. Só que em The Mountain , assim se chama o disco mais recente da superbanda de que Albarn é o grande arquitecto e Hewlett o criador de todo o universo animado, a morte não é encarada como um fim: antes como uma transformação, um recomeço. Sobre isto canta a grande Asha Bhosle (1933-2026) na tocante The shadowy light : a aceitação de que estamos a chegar ao fim do caminho que conhecemos, o entusiasmo por descobrir o que vem depois, a crença de que nesse depois não haverá sofrimento, apenas calma, paz, harmonia. Ouvi-lo no timbre apaziguante e arrebatador de Bhosle é de levar a lágrima ao canto do olho.
