Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology supports students in taking a role in presenting solutions to various development challenges, including waste management and sustainable energy transition.
The Ministry's Director General of Research and Development, Fauzan Adziman, said in a statement here on Sunday, that waste management is an issue that involves aspects of technology, economics, governance, and social transformation of society.
Therefore, he emphasized the need for talents who are able to see problems holistically and present sustainable solutions.
"We need talents who are able to look at problems holistically and present sustainable solutions," he said.
Adziman said that the ministry had supported various research related to processing waste into energy.
The ministry, he said, is currently also encouraging student involvement in the Student Literacy Program, through Learning Actions and Community Empowerment carried out by students.
He believes that universities play a strategic role in producing innovation based on academic expertise and developing talent, including students who are able to connect science with the needs of society.
Through this program, students can play an active role in society through dialogue with residents, mapping problems in the field, building public awareness, and encouraging better waste management practices starting from the household level.
"Students not only learn from the community, but also become agents of change who help build a better waste management ecosystem," said Adziman.
This, he said, was part of efforts to create sustainable solutions.
Responding to this, the Deputy Chancellor of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) for Research, Business Development and Cooperation, Danang Sri Hadmoko, said that higher education provides opportunities for the young generation to become future leaders.
"Energy issues and strategic problems need to be answered through a multidisciplinary and multi-actor approach," he said.
