Jedno od najvećih iznenađenja u nogometnom svijetu svakako je povratak Josea Mourinha u Real Madrid! Portugalski trener je bio šef struke Blancosa od 2010. godine, kad je trijumfalno na Bernabeuu s Interom osvojio Ligu prvaka te je odmah nakon proslave na terenu sjeo u limuzinu Florentina Pereza i otišao na večeru. U Interu su teško prihvatili da će trener koji im je osigurao trostruku krunu te sezone otići u Madrid. Kapetan Materazzi je u podzemnoj garaži, dok se pozdravljao s Mourinhom prije njegova ulaska u Realov automobil, ridao suze i još jednom treneru kazao "ostani". No, bilo je to ispunjenje sna Josea Mourinha, preuzeti najveći klub na svijetu i učiniti nešto veliko te time postati "besmrtan" u memoriji Realovog planeta.
Massimo Moratti nije spustio ni centa odštetne klauzule. Dijelom valjda jer je mislio da je ona dovoljno visoka da bi Real odustao, a Mourinho pomislio platiti je sam. No, Perez je htio Portugalca, 16 milijuna eura odmah je plaćeno Interu i počela je Mourinhova era u Realu. Ona je tri godine kasnije neslavno završena. Real je ostvario jednu španjolsku titulu prvaka, ali nije uspio ući u finale, odnosno osvojiti Ligu prvaka. Perez je bio razočaran jer je osvajanje Decime (desete titule LP) bila njegova opsesija.
Mourinho je potpuno podijelio Realov svijet, a pritom je, zanimljivo, homogenizirao druge klubove, prije svega Barcelonu, te upravljače La Lige, kojima je dozlogrdilo Portugalčevo oholo ponašanje, vrijeđanje, incidenti i kontinuirano traženje alibija za Realove neuspjehe. Barem pola Realovih fanova, sociosa i kroničara počelo je prozivati Mourinha jer "sramoti stil Reala", a onda je u trećoj sezoni njegova rada broj protivnika dodatno narastao. Perez nije imao kud i razišli su se u prijateljskim odnosima. Nije tajna da je Mourinho ostao u kontaktu s Perezom te je u svakoj prilici, kad je bila neka kriza, dio medija sklonih predsjedniku promicao tezu kako je Portugalac na putu povratka u Real. Dogodilo se, neočekivano, 13 godina kasnije. I to prioritetno zato jer je Real pokazao niz slabosti u protekle dvije sezone, a pogotovo zato što je u svlačionici punoj taštih zvijezda i zvjezdica nastao lom. Međusobne svađe, tučnjave, neprijateljstva poslužili su kao povod Florentinu Perezu da vrati čovjeka za kojeg je poznato da u svlačionici drži maksimalan red i disciplinu. Sve te negativnosti su omekšale i sve one koji su Mourinha negativno doživljali, te je tako došlo do druge ere suradnje Reala i Portugalca.
Mourinho je, naravno, dočekao svoj završni ples najviše nogometne razine potpuno spreman. Svjestan da više neće imati takvu priliku, a i status, tražio je otvorene ruke od Pereza da posloži kadar po svom guštu te mu zajamčio da će u svlačionici odmah zavladati maksimalni red.
U nizu pojačanja koji će osvanuti u Valdebebasu, u proteklih mjesec dana više se puta promicala teza kako Mourinho i Real žele dovesti Joška Gvardiola iz Manchester Citya. Pritom se baratalo odštetom od 70-80 milijuna eura, koju je Perez spreman uplatiti klubu s Ettihada. Usprkos brojnim "ekskluzivama" tzv. insajdera i outsajdera, već smo prije više tjedana pisali da je priča o transferu Gvardiola u Real , ili kao opciju dva u Barcelonu, samo veći "kiseli krastavac" za medijsko konzumiranje. Nije bilo nikakve logike u svim tim pričama, pogotovo zato što Manchester City ima argument ugovora (koji traje do 2028.), te je bilo nelogično da za igrača takve kvalitete, i mladosti, za kojeg su izdvojili 90 milijuna eura odštete RB Leipzigu, uopće prihvate razgovor o transferu u drugi klub. Uz to je i spomenuti iznos od 70-80 milijuna eura sugerirao nerealnost te priče. Tko bi pristao na manju cijenu za igrača koji se smatra sadašnjošću i budućnošću Manchester Cityja, nakon što je svojim igrama i ponašanjem opravdao svaki uloženi cent.
Joško Gvardiol će prerasti u bližoj budućnosti u senatora MC-a i bit će jedan od lidera momčadi koju će, nakon odlaska Pepa Guardiole , naslijediti Enzo Maresca . Talijanski trener je već radio na Etihadu, kao asistent Guardioli, o njemu u MC-u svi pričaju s velikim respektom i pozitivom. Maresca je evoluirao u jednog od najvećih trenerskih talenata i od njega očekuju u klubu da će nastaviti ritam uspješnosti slavnog mu prethodnika.
