Ligue 1: way open for top millers: Lens separates from coach

RC Lens, the French second division champion, has parted ways with coach Pierre Sage, who requested contract termination to move to Crystal Palace in England. This opens the door for Dino Toppmöller, formerly of Eintracht Frankfurt, to potentially join the club. Frankreichs Vize-Meister RC Lens hat sich von Trainer Pierre Sage getrennt und damit den Weg freigemacht für eine mögliche Verpflichtung des früheren Eintracht-Frankfurt-Coaches Dino Toppmöller . Wie der Verein aus der Ligue 1 mitteilte, habe Sage um eine Vertragsauflösung gebeten, damit er als Nachfolger von Oliver Glasner zu Crystal Palace nach England wechseln kann. Eine Einigung wurde erzielt.

Zuletzt hatten Medien übereinstimmend berichtet, dass der 45 Jahre alte Toppmöller zum Champions-League-Teilnehmer aus Nordfrankreich gehen soll und in dieser Woche einen Zweijahresvertrag erhält.

Toppmöller spricht Französisch

Toppmöller war im Januar bei Eintracht Frankfurt nach zwei erfolgreichen Jahren, aber einer schwachen Hinrunde, entlassen worden. Seine Art, Fußball spielen zu lassen, hat die Verantwortlichen den Berichten zufolge überzeugt. Zudem spricht er durch Trainerstationen in Luxemburg und Belgien fließend Französisch. Bei der Eintracht hat er noch einen bis Juni 2028 gültigen Vertrag.
