A live fjord whale was discovered for the first time in Iceland. The whale, found in Grótta on Seltjarnarnes, is a species previously only known through fossil remains dating back over a million years. The discovery was made by biologist and filmmaker Svanhildur Egilsdóttir while preparing for a dive. Initial identification was uncertain, but DNA testing confirmed it as a fjord whale. This marks the first recorded living specimen of this species in Iceland.
