The Church has taken over the Ombudsman's function

Sedmdesátiletou Kostolanskou, kterou nominoval Senát a Česká konference rektorů, zvolili poslanci počátkem června ve druhém kole tajného hlasování. Porazila v něm někdejší vládní zmocněnkyni pro lidská práva Kláru Šimáčkovou Laurenčíkovou, již nominoval prezident Petr Pavel.

Kostolanská, která již v úřadu působila, jako svou přednost zmiňovala znalost fungování veřejné správy. Před volbou rovněž zmiňovala, že by bylo vhodné stanovit úřadu určité priority, na něž by se měl zaměřovat.

Loučící se Stanislav Křeček uvedl, že po zásahu ombudsmana se v drtivé většině případů podařilo u institucí veřejné správy dosáhnout nápravy. „Úřad veřejného ochránce práv má být místem, kam se mohou obracet lidé, kterým nikdo jiný nepomůže,“ poznamenal.

V čele úřadu se zatím vystřídali Emanuel Motejl, Pavel Varvařovský, Anna Šabatová a právě Křeček.
