Die Raketenbaufirma SpaceX übernimmt das KI -Coding-Tool Cursor. In einer Mitteilung an die US-Börsenaufsichtsbehörde SEC teilte das Unternehmen von Elon Musk mit, dass es am 16. Juni 2026 einen Fusionsvertrag mit der Firma Anysphere unterzeichnet hat, die Cursor herausgibt. Cursor werde als hundertprozentige SpaceX-Tochter fortbestehen, heißt es darin . Für den Kauf zahlt SpaceX 60 Milliarden US-Dollar in Form von SpaceX-Aktien. Die Transaktion soll im dritten Quartal 2026 abgeschlossen werden.
SpaceX hatte sich im April eine Option zur Übernahme für 60 Milliarden Dollar gesichert – alternativ wäre eine Partnerschaft für 10 Milliarden US-Dollar möglich gewesen. Der Kauf wurde aber zunächst zurückgestellt, um den geplanten Börsengang umzusetzen. Der Rekordbörsengang hat viel frisches Kapital in die Kassen von SpaceX gespült, das Musk jetzt im KI-Wettrüsten einsetzen kann. Microsoft hatte eine Übernahme von Anysphere geprüft, aber kein formelles Angebot gemacht. Cursor selbst hatte zudem zwei Annäherungsversuche von OpenAI abgewiesen.
Angesichts der hohen Summe gilt die Übernahme als einer der größten Tech-Deals der letzten Jahre. SpaceX, das Elon Musks KI-Unternehmen xAI Anfang 2026 komplett in seine Firmenstruktur integriert hat , erhofft sich laut Medienberichten mit Cursor ein profitables Vorzeigeprodukt, in Ergänzung zum xAI-KI-Chatbot Grok. Zudem könnte Cursor für SpaceX auch nützlich bei der eigenen Softwareentwicklung für Raumfahrtprojekte sein. Das beliebte KI-Tool für Softwareentwickler verschafft SpaceX einen direkten Zugang zur weltweiten Entwickler-Community.
Cursor wiederum könnte vom „Colossus“-Supercomputer von xAI profitieren, einem Rechenzentrum mit der Leistung von rund 200.000 Nvidia-Hopper-GPUs. Google und Anthropic mieten bereits Rechenleistung aus den SpaceX-Rechenzentren für ihre KI-Dienste. Für Anthropic mit Claude Code und OpenAI könnte der Wettbewerbsdruck im Bereich des Vibe Codings damit deutlich ansteigen.
