Izraelski ministar vanjskih poslova Gideon Saar objavio je da Izrael prekida sve kontakte s visokom predstavnicom EU za vanjsku politiku Kajom Kallas, optuživši je za "opsesivan i očito nepravedan” odnos prema Izraelu, javljaju izraelski mediji

Povod su navodi da je Kaja Kallas izraelsku politiku usporedila s aparthejdom u Južnoj Africi . Saar je takve izjave nazvao "krvnom klevetom” te poručio da ih Kallas nije ni demantirala ni dodatno pojasnila, zbog čega je odlučio prekinuti komunikaciju s njom.
Odluka dolazi u vrijeme sve napetijih odnosa između Izraela i dijela članica EU zbog rata u Gazi, nasilja izraelskih doseljenika na okupiranoj Zapadnoj obali te zahtjeva za uvođenjem strožih mjera protiv Izraela.
Unutar Europske unije već se raspravljalo o mogućim sankcijama protiv izraelskih dužnosnika i nasilnih doseljenika, no za šire mjere nije postignut konsenzus.

Kallas je nedavno potvrdila da među članicama nema suglasnosti ni o sankcijama protiv krajnje desnog izraelskog ministra Itamara Ben-Gvira .
Izrael odbacuje optužbe za aparthejd i tvrdi da takve usporedbe delegitimiraju državu te umanjuju povijesno značenje južnoafričkog sustava rasne segregacije .
Prekid kontakata s Kajom Kallas predstavlja novi diplomatski udarac odnosima između Izraela i Bruxellesa, koji su od početka rata u Gazi opterećeni dubokim podjelama unutar same Europske unije.
