No time-limited punishment for the double murderer

A man convicted of double murder, Anders Eklund (now known as Gustavson), has applied to convert his life sentence into a fixed-term prison sentence. The Örebro District Court has denied this request, stating there remains a significant risk he would reoffend seriously. Gustavson was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008 for the murders of Pernilla Hellgren and Engla Höglund. He is currently 60 years old and has served 18 years of his life sentence.

Morddömde Anders Eklund, som numera heter Gustavson, har ansökt om att få sitt livstidsstraff omvandlat till ett tidsbestämt straff. Idag meddelar Örebro tingsrätt att det inte beviljas.

Anders Eklund dömdes till livstids fängelse 2008. Bland annat för morden på Pernilla Hellgren, 30, i Falun och Engla Höglund, 10, i Stjärnsund.

I beslutet om att inte bevilja ansökan om tidsbestämt straff skriver tingsrätten: ”Vid en samlad bedömning finns det fortfarande en mycket konkret och beaktansvärd risk för att Anders Gustavson återfaller i brottslighet av allvarligt slag. Det föreligger därför ett absolut hinder mot att tidsbestämma livstidsstraffet.”

Anders Gustavson är nu 60 år gammal och har varit frihetsberövad sedan den 7 april 2008. Han har i dag avtjänat 18 år av sitt livstidsstraff.
