An IIM Ahmedabad professor turned a classroom session into an unconventional statistics lesson by using a scene from Ranveer Singh’s 2025 blockbuster film Dhurandhar to explain research methodology concepts.

A video of the moment was shared by Prakhar Singh, an IIM Ahmedabad student, on Instagram. In the clip, a scene from Dhurandhar played on a projector while the professor linked dialogues from the film to statistical concepts such as cluster sampling and stratification.

“Only at IIM Ahmedabad can a Dhurandhar scene turn into a statistics lesson. ‘Win Lyari, win Pakistan’ - Cluster Sampling. ‘Baloch gangs and Pathan gangs are fundamentally different groups’ - Stratification,” Singh wrote in the caption of his post.

He added that the class quickly moved from watching gang rivalries on screen to discussing survey design and research methodology.

The scene shown in the classroom featured Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza trying to understand Pakistan’s criminal underworld in a conversation with Uzair Baloch, played by Danish Pandor. In the scene, Baloch explains the power dynamics at play, saying that whoever controls Karachi controls all of Pakistan.

The IIM Ahmedabad professor appeared to use the scene to illustrate how statistical sampling methods can be applied to real-world structures.

The line “Win Lyari, win Pakistan” was linked to cluster sampling, a method in which researchers study a representative group or cluster - such as a specific region - to draw conclusions about a larger population.

Meanwhile, the distinction between Baloch and Pathan gangs was used to explain stratification, where a population is divided into distinct subgroups before analysis to ensure each group is adequately represented.
