Planowana już w latach 1912–1913 Akademia Górnicza w Krakowie – z językiem polskim jako wykładowym – miała z założenia mieć tę samą rangę, co istniejące już wyższe uczelnie górnicze w CK Austrii.

Dzieje niektórych polskich uczelni doczekały się poszerzonych opracowań. Szczególnie dużo powstało ich na temat dziejów Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, który słusznie wskazywany jest jako najstarsza polska uczelnia i ma z tego tytułu liczne korzyści, by wspomnieć tylko o długiej liście różnych dotacji państwowych związanych z wielokrotnymi (!) obchodami 600-lecia tego Uniwersytetu. Dzieje mojej uczelni (piszę „mojej”, bo byłem trzykrotnie wybrany na rektora AGH) są mniej znane, dlatego postanowiłem o nich napisać.
