Nach einem brutalen Messerangriff in Belfast sind ausländerfeindliche Proteste in der nordirischen Stadt eskaliert: Demonstranten setzten am Dienstagabend Autos und auch Gebäude in Brand. Auslöser war die Veröffentlichung eines Videos von einem Messerangriff, für den ein sudanesischer Migrant verantwortlich gemacht wird. Der 30-Jährige wurde festgenommen. Er soll an diesem Mittwoch einem Richter vorgeführt werden.
Weitere Militäraktionen am Persischen Golf
Trotz der vereinbarten Waffenruhe in der Golfregion und laufenden Verhandlungen über ein Kriegsende haben sich die USA und der Iran erneut gegenseitig angegriffen. Als Reaktion auf den Abschuss eines US-Militärhubschraubers bombardierten die Vereinigten Staaten im Iran Luftabwehreinrichtungen, Bodenkontrollstationen und Radaranlagen im Bereich der Straße von Hormus. Das teilte das zuständige Regionalkommando des US-Militärs, CENTCOM, mit. Der Iran griff daraufhin laut iranischen Medien US-Stützpunkte in der Golfregion und in Jordanien an, unter anderem mit ballistischen Raketen. Kuwaits Luftabwehr war laut Armeeangaben im Einsatz. Auch in Bahrain gab es Alarm.

Nach den ersten US-Angriffen erklärte der iranische Außenminister Abbas Araghtschi, der Iran werde "keinen Angriff oder keine Bedrohung unbeantwortet lassen". Das US-Militär sprach von einer "verhältnismäßigen" Antwort auf den iranischen Abschuss des Apache-Kampfhubschraubers vor der Küste des Omans. Die US-Streitkräfte seien bereit, sich weiter gegen "ungerechtfertigte iranische Aggressionen" zu verteidigen, teilte CENTCOM mit.
Israel kritisiert Strafmaßnahmen gegen Siedler
Die israelische Regierung hat die Sanktionen mehrerer Staaten gegen extremistische israelische Siedler verurteilt. Die Maßnahmen dienten unter falschem Vorwand dazu, den Antisemitismus weiter anzufachen, so Israels Außenministerium.
Zuvor hatte Frankreichs Außenminister Jean-Noël Barrot gemeinsame Strafmaßnahmen mit Australien , Kanada , Norwegen und Großbritannien gegen extremistische israelische Siedler angekündigt. In einer Erklärung wird Israel zudem aufgefordert, der Straffreiheit für gewalttätige Siedler ein Ende zu setzen. Dabei geht es um israelische Staatsbürger, die im von Israel besetzten Westjordanland völkerrechtswidrig Land in Besitz genommen haben und die dortige palästinensische Bevölkerung gewaltsam drangsalieren. Barrot teilte darüber hinaus mit, Frankreich habe den israelischen Finanzminister Bezalel Smotrich, vier Verantwortliche von Siedlerorganisationen und 21 gewalttätige Siedler mit einem Einreiseverbot belegt.
Diätenerhöhung im Bundestag soll ausfallen
Die Abgeordneten des Deutschen Bundestags werden in diesem Jahr wohl keine Erhöhung ihrer Bezüge bekommen. Nach Informationen der Deutschen Presse-Agentur wird das Parlament die automatische Anhebung der Diäten in diesem Jahr aussetzen. Demnach haben Deutschlands Regierungsfraktionen von CDU/CSU und SPD beschlossen, noch in dieser Woche einen entsprechenden Gesetzentwurf im Bundestag einzubringen. Sie wollen damit in finanziell und wirtschaftlich schwierigen Zeiten ein Sparsignal an die Bevölkerung senden. Der Entwurf wurde bereits für den späten Donnerstagabend auf die Tagesordnung des Parlaments gesetzt.
