In een gebouw waar een opvang voor asielzoekers moet komen in Nuenen is vanochtend vuurwerk aangetroffen.

"Binnen is een vuurwerkmortier en een mogelijke pijpbom neergelegd", laat de politie weten bij Omroep Brabant (opent in nieuw venster) . De EOD is opgeroepen.

De vondst werd gedaan bij het plaatsen van meubels in een gebouw aan de Pastoorsmast in het Brabantse dorp. Het leegstaande pand wordt op dit moment omgebouwd zodat er nog deze zomer een tijdelijk asielzoekerscentrum voor maximaal 159 asielzoekers kan openen.

Duizend bezwaarschriften

Tegen het azc bestaat veel weerstand en er zijn meer dan duizend (opent in nieuw venster) bezwaarschriften ingediend. Toch besloot de gemeente om de plannen in licht aangepaste vorm door te zetten. Zo belooft het Centraal Orgaan opvang Asielzoekers (COA) dat er 24 uur per dag beveiliging aanwezig is. Ook is het nieuwe azc straks altijd telefonisch bereikbaar, ook voor omwonenden.

Een kleine groep tegenstanders blijft desondanks ontevreden en stapte donderdag naar de rechtbank in Den Bosch. Zij willen de opening van het asielzoekerscentrum tegenhouden omdat het niet ver van een woonwijk in Nuenen ligt.

Behalve de vondst vanochtend zijn er ook een aantal ruiten van het gebouw vernield. De omgeving is afgezet en de politie doet verder onderzoek.
