The Egyptian petroleum sector has successfully added nearly 12,000 barrels per day (BPD) of crude oil and condensates to production in the Western Desert region over the past two weeks.
This includes more than 10,000 BPD from the fields of Khalda Petroleum Company, along with approximately 1,500 BPD from the fields of the General Petroleum Company in the Abu-Sennan area.
These positive results from Khalda Petroleum’s fields exemplify the success of the intensive investment programs implemented recently.
It also follows the restoration of confidence with investment partners and the settlement of outstanding dues through a gradual reduction over two years. This has contributed to increased investment spending, accelerated drilling, development, and exploration activities, and transformed promising opportunities into actual production that supports the local market.
The Khalda Petroleum Company, a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the American company Apache, achieved a significant production leap, adding more than 10,000 BPD of crude oil and condensates in just two weeks.
The company’s production increased from 113,300 BPD on May 26, 2026, to approximately 123,500 BPD on June 8, 2026.
This increase followed the commissioning of five new wells, including three development wells and two exploration wells, demonstrating the rapid success of its drilling and development programs.
The results also underscore the company’s efficiency in utilizing the latest technologies to accelerate the development of discoveries and maximize production rates through the highest efficiency.
Highest production rates
The EGPC achieved its highest production rates since October 2024, reaching a total output of approximately 74,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day, including nearly 61,000 barrels of crude oil.
This reflects the success of intensive development programs, improved field operational efficiency, and accelerated production increase plans.
The EGPC also achieved a new production addition from the Abu-Sennan area in the Western Desert, which represents a role-model for maximizing the utilization of producing fields through the application of the latest technologies and Egyptian technical expertise.
The GPF-1X exploration well has been brought online at a rate of approximately 1,500 barrels of crude oil per day, along with one million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
These results reflect the success of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to develop new discoveries and maximize the utilization of existing fields.
This has been achieved through expanding drilling and exploration activities, implementing the latest technologies, and creating an attractive and stimulating investment environment to attract further investments, thereby supporting increased domestic production and reducing the import bill.
