At the expiration of this contract, he signed a massive 3-year, $106.5 million contract extension with $91.5 million in guaranteed money in March 2025. ESPN’s Ryan McFadden notes the blockbuster deal keeps Crosby under contract through the 2029 season. He still has four years left on his contract. According to Spotrac, his potential out is in 2028 when he will carry $0 in dead cap. In 2026, he is scheduled to earn a $30M base salary while carrying a $35M cap hit and a $64M dead cap value.

Sports Illustrated’s Jeff Kerr reports the Philadelphia Eagles may have had interest in Maxx Crosby before, but they could rekindle that interest if he’s available. Jeff Kerr suggested a lethal combination involving Philadelphia linebacker Jonathan Greenard. “While a Greenard-Crosby combination would be lethal, could the Eagles afford to pay one player $35.5M/year and the other player $25M/year? Under [GM] Howie Roseman, they could with contract extensions and voided years,” Kerr wrote. Another longtime Raiders insider, Honda Carpenter, said via the New York Post, “I am telling you there is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby. Two teams specifically are nuclear hot -- the Eagles and the 49ers.”

The San Francisco 49ers have not signed Nick Bosa’s older brother, Joey Bosa, who remains a free agent. Consequently, the Chicago Bears have been urged to sign the veteran defensive end as of now. With Joey Bosa out of the picture, another explosive candidate for the Niners could be Maxx Crosby. According to Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun, acquiring Crosby would provide San Francisco with a reliable edge rusher capable of leading the defensive line whenever Nick Bosa is off the gridiron. Because Nick Bosa has a history of injuries, Maxx Crosby could seamlessly step in and hold the fort for the franchise during his [long?] absence. Maxx Crosby was rejected by the Baltimore Ravens in the early 2026 offseason after a failed physical, despite showing intense mutual interest. They signed free-agent defensive end Trey Hendrickson instead. Any potential new franchise that attempts to trade for Crosby will likely require another physical.
