Als pelziger, grüner Griesgram, der Weihnachten verabscheut, hat Jim Carrey vor mehr als 25 Jahren mit dem Film „Der Grinch“ Furore gemacht. Nun könnte der inzwischen 64-jährige Hollywood-Star diese Rolle ein weiteres Mal übernehmen.

Eine Fortsetzung sei in Planung, teilten das Filmstudio Universal und die Produktionsfirma Imagine Entertainment heute auf Instagram mit. Auch Ron Howard (72), der Regisseur des Originalfilms, wurde in dem Posting verlinkt.

Medien: Drehbuch bereits fertig

Oscar-Preisträger Howard („A Beautiful Mind – Genie und Wahnsinn“), Produzent Brian Grazer und Carrey sollen an der Fortsetzung mitwirken, wie das Branchenblatt „Hollywood Reporter“ berichtete. Ein Drehbuch für den noch titellosen Film liege bereits vor.

„Der Grinch“ war 2000 weltweit ein Kassenhit. Der Komiker Carrey verwandelte sich darin in ein haariges Monster, das die Festtagsfreude im Bergdörfchen Whoville nicht ausstehen kann und alles unternimmt, um den Bewohnerinnen und Bewohnern das Weihnachtsfest zu vermiesen.

Der Film basiert auf dem Buch „How the Grinch Stole Christmas“ des amerikanischen Kinderbuchautors Dr. Seuss. Laut Carrey dauerte es damals jeden Tag mehrere Stunden, bis das aufwendige Make-up für seine Rolle fertig war. Der Film erhielt 2001 den Oscar für das beste Make-up.
