NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old domestic worker was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by a dermatologist on the terrace of a building in south Delhi's upscale Greater Kailash area on Thursday, police said. The accused, identified as Dr Manish Gupta, was found at the scene and arrested. During preliminary questioning, he allegedly confessed to attacking the woman, Meena, with a bat before stabbing her with a knife, police said. The incident came to light around 11. 30am when police received a PCR call reporting that a woman was lying in a pool of blood on the terrace of a neighbouring building. A police team rushed to the spot and found the victim dead. The accused, a man in his 50s, was present near the body and was immediately taken into custody, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari. According to police, Meena had been working as a domestic help at Gupta's residence for a long time. While investigators suspect the murder may have stemmed from a personal dispute, the exact motive remains unclear and is being probed. Forensic experts examined the crime scene, while CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being scanned and local residents questioned as part of the investigation. The bat and knife allegedly used in the murder have been seized.
The victim's body has been sent for postmortem examination, and a case has been registered. Police said multiple teams are questioning the accused to establish the sequence of events leading to the killing. The gruesome murder has shocked residents of the locality, coming barely two months after the alleged rape and murder of an IRS officer's daughter in the area. (With PTI inputs)
