Student points a gun in the face to the teacher in class

A teacher at the Galileo Galilei high school in Mirandola, Modena province, was threatened and effectively robbed by a student who demanded his cigarettes with a replica air gun. The incident occurred during class on May 21, when the student pointed the weapon at the teacher's temple and said, 'Give me the cigarettes or I shoot.' The teacher was surrounded by students and eventually handed over the cigarettes before the group left, joking that it was a prank. The teacher later reported the incident in the class register, citing violations of the school regulations.

"Give me my cigarettes or I'll shoot": a professor at the Galileo Galilei Higher School in Mirandola (Modena) was threatened with a pistol by a student who demanded his cigarettes: it happened a few weeks ago, on 21 May, in the same school that had already been mentioned for a boxing match in the courtyard that had led the institute to not admit the protagonists to the polls.

According to the reconstruction of the Gazzetta di Modena, the episode would have occurred during class hours in a classroom before the professional. The professor at the chair would have been taken from behind by a group of students, one of whom would have pointed the weapon at his temple: a pistol with bullets, a faithful reproduction of a real weapon although at the time when the teacher found it pointed at the temple he could not know it. The episode, triggered precisely by a pack of cigarettes, would also have been captured on video, as already happened for the boxing match.

The teacher formalised the report with a note on the class register and informed the school head that he had sent the boy away who had made himself the protagonist of the gesture. "The student - explained the principal Edoardo Ricci - had already received two suspension measures of ten days and had also exceeded the maximum limit of absences. He was invited not to show up at school and not to attend this institution anymore, which then happened in the following days.

What is apparent - the principal added, also referring to the other boys involved - is their complete underestimation of the risks and their lack of awareness: it is disarming".

A few days earlier, the story of the boxing match, also captured in a video that ended up on social media, and where two boys are seen fighting with gloves, during a break in class, in front of many spectators, in an improvised ring in an underground staircase, near a car park. In this case, the video of the threat of armed hand to the teacher is not filmed with the same intensity, but it still raised concerns in an institution where there have already been moments of tension.

The school's unions have expressed their solidarity with the teacher and raised the alarm: "during the school year just ended - says Carmelo Randazzo della Cisl - in the province of Modena there were at least 16 serious incidents of attacks, fights, beatings, urticating spray, robberies or attempted robberies against students. The sequence of these events testifies to the existence of an educational and security crisis that cannot be archived as a sum of bravado and against which it is useless to oppose simplistic, symbolic or security solutions".

We must stop, is the attack of the FLC Cgil of Modena, "diminishing the work of school staff through questionable initiatives, such as questionnaires that invite students to evaluate teachers, as in an institute in Carpi, almost as if the latter were to be subjected to examination, or through measures that limit their professional autonomy, such as the Valditara law on affective education or the survey on ghostly left-wing professors.

The school must remain, and increasingly become, a genuinely educational place, capable of preventing discomfort through listening, relating and inclusion".
