Croatian Far-Right Party ‘Flying a Political Drone’ into Bosnia, Says Ex-Minister

A proposal by Croatia's right-wing Homeland Movement (DP), part of the governing coalition, to strengthen the political position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina has sparked controversy. When it was revealed that the right-wing Homeland Movement, DP, part of Croatia’s governing coalition, had developed proposals intended to boost Croats’ standing in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, it caused a political storm - even though the ideas have almost no chance of ever being implemented.

The DP wants the document, called the ‘Resolution on Strengthening the Political Position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina’, to be adopted by Croatia’s parliament. But it has been criticised for interfering in the politics of the neighbouring state in the run-up to the general elections there in October.

Some believe the right-wing party’s move is about ‘patriotic’ self-promotion. Former Croatian Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt, who was one of President Franjo Tudjman’s closest advisers and associates in the 1990s, said she is perplexed.
