Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon and Tom Holland will attend the India premiere of Nolan’s heavily anticipated period drama The Odyssey in July. According to a press release from Universal Pictures International, Mumbai is among the cities where The Odyssey will be screened ahead of its global release on July 17.
“ The Odyssey will be the first Christopher Nolan film ever to premiere in India,” the press release noted. The premiere will be held at the PVR Icon IMAX cinema at Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai.
The Odyssey has been shot by Hoyte van Hoytema entirely with IMAX cameras. Tickets for the 172-minute film are already on sale worldwide.

Nolan’s version of Homer’s Greek epic follows the homeward journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, following the Trojan War. Nolan’s screenplay is said to be partly based on Emily Wilson’s translation of Odyssey .
Odysseus takes 10 years to travel from Troy to Ithaca, battling hostile tribes and legendary creatures along the way. Since Odysseus is presumed dead, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus have to stave off numerous suitors for Penelope.
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus. Also in the cast are Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Robert Pattinson as Penelope’s suitor Antinous, Charlize Theron as the nymph Calypso, Samantha Morton as the goddess Circe and Mia Goth as Melantho, one of Penelope’s maids.

Himesh Patel has been cast as Odysseus’s lieutenant Eurylochus. Also part of the film are Elliot Page, Shiloh Fernandez and Maurice Compte.
Emma Thomas, Nolan’s wife and producer on all his films, will also be in Mumbai for the premiere. Nolan had previously visited India in 2018 for an event organised by Film Heritage Foundation to promote the use and preservation of celluloid.
