Customs officers have targeted debtors on the highway, and now they can impound cars if they don't pay.

Customs officials in the Czech Republic have begun targeting debtors on highways, with the ability to seize vehicles if drivers owe money to the state. This new power allows customs authorities to confiscate cars during road checks if the driver has unpaid fines, taxes, or other obligations. In Central Bohemia alone, customs officers have helped enforce over 15,000 outstanding penalties this year. Over 200 license plates have already been seized.

Celní správa se ve čtvrtek zaměřila na dlužníky projíždějící dálnicí D8. Čeští celníci mají totiž novou speciální pravomoc – pokud při silniční kontrole zjistí, že řidič dluží peníze státu, mohou mu odebrat i samotné vozidlo. Jen ve Středních Čechách letos celníci pomáhají s vymáháním skoro patnácti tisíc nezaplacených blokových pokut. U čtvrtečních kontrol šlo nejčastěji o nezaplacené dálniční známky, poplatky obcím, soudní výlohy nebo dopravní pokuty z dřívějška. Právě za ně můžou celníci zabavit i registrační značky. Letos už jich zabavili přes dvě stě.

Česko loni nesplnilo závazek NATO – na obranu stát nevydal dvě procenta HDP. „Ano, beru to, že jsme v něčem selhali, to přiznávám,“ řekl v pořadu Interview ČT24 člen sněmovního výboru pro obranu a místopředseda poslaneckého klubu ODS Pavel Žáček s tím, že ale „věřili, že to půjde zvládnout“. Tématem rozhovoru byla i koncepce armády, kterou po dokončení pošle vláda do výboru pro obranu. „Budeme rozebírat jednotlivé nuance, teprve zjistíme, jak se to změnilo (…) a uvidíme, jestli to bude realistické,“ nastínil Žáček. Tématem rozhovoru byl i vztah amerického prezidenta Donalda Trumpa s premiérem Andrejem Babišem (ANO). Podle Žáčka se Česko kritice Spojených států nevyhne. Trump na summitu v Ankaře bude podle něj ukazovat prstem na státy, které závazek dvou procent HDP nesplnily, a tedy i na Babiše. „To opravdu nic nezmění – ani dobré vztahy,“ komentoval Žáček.
