Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya met with Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Shri Sandeep Chakravorty to discuss developments in bilateral cooperation while advancing preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit.
Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretariat noted in a social media post that the meeting took place at its office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
“During the meeting, Ambassador Chakravorty specifically requested time to convey several points regarding developments in cooperation between Indonesia and India,” the secretariat stated.
He noted that Indonesia is home to more than 150,000 Indian diaspora members.
“Furthermore, the ambassador outlined plans for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia, an agenda scheduled for midyear,” it added.
The government expects the visit to mark an important milestone in the strategic partnership between Indonesia and India, which have maintained diplomatic relations for 76 years.
This year’s visit is also anticipated to open new avenues for deeper collaboration across multiple spheres between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi is set to travel to Indonesia to reciprocate President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at an event marking India's 76th Republic Day in New Delhi in January 2025.
Bilateral relations have continued to strengthen since the India visit, reflected in a series of high-level engagements over the past year.
In October 2025, for example, Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin discussed expanding military cooperation with General Anil Chauhan, then serving as chief of defense staff of the Indian Armed Forces, in Jakarta.
The following month, he was received by Indian Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
Deepening relations are also evident beyond defense and military, with both countries moving to collaborate to tackle challenges and seize opportunities in the digital era.
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria explored cooperation in digital affairs with Secretary of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology S. Krishnan on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi last February.
More recently, the two countries agreed to pursue closer cooperation in trade, investment, and strategic industries, as well as maritime and digital connectivity, following a foreign ministerial meeting in the Indian capital on June 8.
