Brisantes match: Austria to test before the World Cup against ... Austria

Austria's final World Cup warm-up match against Guatemala, scheduled for Wednesday at the Rosebowl Stadium in Los Angeles, has been canceled due to organizational reasons. Instead, Austria will hold an internal friendly between team I and team II at a training facility near Santa Barbara University. The match will take place behind closed doors, with only a few construction workers expected to watch. Players Marko Arnautovic and David Alaba will participate after previously training individually.

Am Mittwoch (Ortszeit) hätte in Los Angeles der letzte WM-Test Österreichs stattfinden sollen. Im Rosebowl Stadium , wo 1994 das WM-Finale zwischen Brasilien und Italien ausgetragen worden war, war Guatemala als letzter Sparringpartner vorgesehen. Das erstmalige Spiel gegen die Mittelamerikaner, aktuell Nummer 96 der Weltrangliste, wurde aus organisatorischen Gründen abgesagt.

Teamchef Ralf Rangnick war darüber sogar glücklich. Statt der rund drei Stunden, die sein Team (in eine Richtung) im Bus gesessen wäre, sind es nun wieder zehn Minuten in Richtung Trainingsplatz. Dort kommt es am Mittwoch zu einem internen Testspiel zwischen Österreich I (in den roten Heimdressen) und Österreich II (in den weißen Auswärtsdressen). Auch ein professionelles Schiedsrichterteam wurde engagiert.

Arbeiter schauen zu

Die Partie findet unter Ausschluss der Öffentlichkeit statt. Zusehen werden wohl ein paar Bauarbeiter, die neben dem Trainingsplatz am Uni-Gelände von Santa Barbara in luftiger Höhe ihre Arbeit verrichten. Sie werden wohl auch Marko Arnautovic, der am Dienstag trainierte , und David Alaba sehen. Das Duo soll nach zuletzt nur individuellen Trainingseinheiten ab sofort dabei sein.
