BBC pulls Ashley Cain documentary over abusive and misogynistic remarks

The BBC has canceled a documentary series featuring presenter Ashley Cain following revelations of his past abusive and misogynistic remarks about women. The BBC stated that its vetting process 'clearly failed' in this case and confirmed it has no plans to air a new season of the show. The decision followed reports by The Guardian highlighting Cain's history of derogatory comments toward women, which were posted on X (formerly Twitter) before his account was removed.

Ashley Cain was secretly sacked from a BBC job last year for being drunk on set before being replaced by another presenter, a new report claims.

The former Ex On The Beach star, 35, apparently concerned producers with his conduct while filming Sin City: The Real Las Vegas over in the U.S.

Ashley's ex Safiyya Vorajee previously revealed that she split with him due to his struggles with alcohol following the death of their baby daughter Azaylia.

Ashley is already under fire this week after historic tweets - from around 10 years ago - exposed the degrading comments he had made about women.

Now he is facing new allegations about how he was quietly removed from the BBC documentary last June for being drunk while filming the project.

According to The Guardian , Ashley flew out to Nevada to work on Sin City, but concerns were raised by staff about his behaviour.

Ashley had since begun working on the second series of his show Into The Danger Zone with the BBC, however that has reportedly now been shelved after his misogynistic tweets came to light.

The BBC told the publication they had no plans to work with Ashley again in the future and admitted their 'vetting' process before hiring talent had 'failed'.

The spokesperson said: 'The posts by Ashley Cain, albeit from many years ago, are completely unacceptable.'

'The BBC has clear requirements around vetting and social media checks, which are undertaken by the production company. In this instance, the process clearly failed and we are investigating why. We are continuing to strengthen our processes to ensure everyone working for, and on behalf of, the BBC meets our values and standards.'

'We have no plans to broadcast the new series of 'Into the Danger Zone', and no future projects with Ashley Cain.'

The Daily Mail contacted representatives for Ashley Cain and the BBC for comment.

In June last year, Safiyya claimed the former couple split because he turned to alcohol  following the death of their baby daughter Azaylia.

Television personality Ashley and his ex partner Safiyya, 37, tragically lost their little girl when she was eight months old after she battled a rare form of cancer .

Azaylia was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and had tumours on her lungs, stomach and kidneys.

She was given several rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant at Birmingham Children's Hospital but sadly died on April 24, 2021.

Safiyya said both she and Ashley struggled with their grief, however he started to 'drink quite a lot' causing them to separate.

Speaking to Paul C Brunson on his We Need To Talk podcast, she said that she 'waited for him' to navigate his grief but it became too much for her.

Safiyya said: 'I was like let's ride through this together and he had his own protective armour around him and the feelings and pain he was in, he couldn't navigate it.

'I kind of waited for him but he ended up drinking quite a lot and going down that road.

'I'm not someone who really drinks and I needed him but he needed to be by himself.  There is no right and wrong with grief.'

Elsewhere in the chat, Safiyya revealed she gave Ashley a 90 day trial to step away from boozing when they first got together romantically.

At the time, Ashley was doing club appearances and DJing but Safiyya said the only way their relationship would work was if he came home afterwards instead of partying into the early hours.

She explained: 'I said show me the man I want, I gave him the 90 day test. It was just slowing down the pace of going out and partying, so like go to work, get paid and come home because he used to party after.

'I was like show me but if you don't want to, that is fine, but he passed the test with flying colours'.

This week it was revealed the BBC have removed planned repeats of Ashley's Into The Danger Zone after the misogynistic tweets resurfaced.

The broadcaster said they were taking 'allegations seriously' after a new investigation revealed historic tweets on Ashley's online platform calling women 's**gs', 's**ts' and 'psychos'.

The Guardian revealed the series of tweets in which he refers to women in  abusive terms, making jokes about hitting women and degrading sexual practices.

He also sent female users abusive messages with offensive sexualised language.

Following the investigation, the BBC swiftly pulled repeat episodes from series one of the documentary that had been due to air next week.
