An update from The Spinoff’s CEO

The Spinoff's CEO provides an update on the organization's efforts to acquire 5,000 new members by the end of the year. As of now, they have welcomed 1,000 new members and received over 300 additional donations from existing supporters. The CEO emphasizes the importance of independent journalism ahead of an upcoming election and encourages readers to become members or donate to support the publication.

A progress report on our ambitious goal for 2026.

Last month, we shared the massive challenges we’re facing and set a big goal : 5,000 new members by the end of the year.

We’ve been heartened by your incredible response. So far, we’ve welcomed 1,000 new members . To everyone who has signed up: thank you. You have given us a brilliant running start.

We’ve also been blown away by the generous acts of support from our existing community. Alongside our new members, we’ve received more than 300 one-off donations from people who are already contributing regularly but wanted to give us an extra boost. If you have donated or increased your support during this time, we truly cannot thank you enough.

We still have 4,000 more members to find and we’re going to keep campaigning to reach our target by the end of the year.

With an election fast approaching, independent journalism is vital. We have resisted a paywall because we believe that everyone deserves access to local media, not just those who can afford it. But keeping our site free for all requires those who can pay to help us hold the line.

If you’re able, please consider becoming a member or gifting a membership today.
