V registru nesnovne kulturne dediščine tudi velikonočno ragljanje v Tržiču in koline

Članek poroča o novih vnosih, dodanih v slovenski register nematerialne kulturne dediščine, ki vključuje velikonočno jajce v Tržiču in tradicijo koline (vrsta tradicionalne priprave mesa).

The Ministry of Culture has added the Easter bell-ringing tradition in Tržič and the practice of making sausages known as koline to Slovenia’s register of intangible cultural heritage. The additions were announced on August 6, 2026, marking another step in the country's efforts to preserve its diverse cultural traditions. These practices, which have deep historical roots, were officially recognized as part of Slovenia’s national intangible cultural heritage, a designation managed by the ministry since 2008. The Easter bell-ringing in Tržič takes place during Holy Week, specifically from Good Friday to Holy Saturday. During this time, church bells remain silent, and instead, the sound of ringing bells, known as raglanje, echoes through the streets of the town. Groups of bell-ringers, called ragljači, walk through the city, their bells marking the suffering and death of Jesus. This tradition, which dates back at least to the late 19th century, has continued uninterrupted even during major historical upheavals, including World War II and the strict pandemic restrictions of 2020 and 2021. In those years, the ritual was adapted to take place with fewer participants, sometimes from balconies or windows, while still maintaining its core significance. The tradition is described in the application for registration as a continuation of local identity and an essential element of community life. It reflects the deep connection between religious observance and cultural expression, blending spiritual meaning with communal participation. The practice has remained resilient over time, adapting to changing circumstances while preserving its symbolic and emotional weight. Koline, on the other hand, represent a different aspect of Slovenian cultural heritage. These are traditional sausage-making activities, typically held in winter, involving the slaughter of pigs and the preparation of meat into various products. The process combines agricultural labor, culinary knowledge, and social customs, forming a key part of both dietary and social culture in Slovenia. Historically, these gatherings were vital for ensuring food security and played a central role in the annual cycle of rural life. Today, however, they are no longer a necessity for survival, though they continue to serve as important occasions for strengthening family bonds, fostering a sense of belonging, and passing down knowledge across generations. Modern technological advancements have altered the way koline are conducted, yet the practice has increasingly expanded beyond private households. It now includes public events, educational programs, and tourist-oriented demonstrations. Despite this evolution, the core values of community, tradition, and shared experience remain intact. However, due to industrialized meat processing, changes in lifestyle and values, stricter legal requirements, and a decline in the number of individuals who prepare koline for personal use, the practice has become less common in everyday life. Both traditions reflect broader themes of continuity and adaptation within Slovenian society. While the Easter bell-ringing in Tržič maintains a direct link to religious and historical narratives, koline highlight the interplay between practicality, culture, and social cohesion. Their inclusion in the register underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding these elements of national identity against the pressures of modernization and globalization. As the recognition takes effect, local communities and cultural institutions will likely play a key role in promoting and sustaining these traditions. Efforts may include educational initiatives, public celebrations, and collaborations with tourism sectors to ensure their visibility and relevance in contemporary society. The future of these practices will depend on how well they can balance preservation with innovation, remaining rooted in history while remaining accessible to new generations.
