Dva igralca košarkarskega kluba iz Singapurja sta dobila doživljenjsko prepoved FIBA zaradi manipulacije z tekmo.

Dve igralci singapurske košarkarske ekipe Adroit, Oleksandr Kolčenko in Sergii Pryimak, sta dobila doživljenjsko prepoved FIBA zaradi manipulacije tekmovanj.

Two Singapore basketball players have received lifetime bans from international competition by FIBA due to their involvement in match manipulation. Oleksandr Kolchenko and Sergii Pryimak, both former members of the Singapore Adroit team, were found guilty of manipulating games under the jurisdiction of the Federation Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA). The Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) confirmed the bans in a public statement issued on July 15, 2026, emphasizing the severity of the violations and their impact on the integrity of the sport. Kolchenko and Pryimak were identified as having manipulated a game between Singapore Adroit and New Taipei Kings International. Additionally, Kolchenko was implicated in another instance of match-fixing involving Singapore Adroit’s game against Hi Tech Club during the Champions League East Asia in May 2025. These findings led to FIBA imposing a lifetime ban on both players on May 20, 2026. The ban prohibits them from participating in any FIBA-sanctioned events, including roles such as players, officials, or coaches. The restriction extends to activities organized by the Basketball Association of Singapore as well. The BAS expressed its strong disapproval of the players' conduct, stating that their actions "severely undermined the principles of fair play and impacted the reputation of Singapore basketball." The association reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity. It warned that any individual or organization found violating these principles would face immediate disciplinary measures. The statement also noted that the association continues to monitor all sanctioned tournaments and events to ensure compliance with ethical standards. The case comes amid broader concerns regarding match-fixing within Singaporean basketball. In 2025, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) announced the arrest of nine individuals suspected of involvement in fixing matches in the K. Star National Basketball League Division 1. Some of those arrested were players from teams competing in the 2025 edition of the league. At the time, Sport Singapore suspended these individuals from all official basketball activities pending further investigation. One of the matches reportedly affected by alleged match-fixing occurred on August 1, 2025, between Tagawa and Tong Whye. Tagawa emerged victorious with a score of 66-43. Players from Singapore Adroit who had been suspended during the investigation continued to participate in the semi-finals of the competition, leading to the postponement of the final. Subsequently, Singapore Adroit was disqualified from the tournament, according to reports from the Straits Times. The incidents involving Kolchenko and Pryimak highlight ongoing challenges faced by sporting bodies in maintaining the integrity of competitions. While FIBA has taken decisive action against the two players, questions remain about how effectively such measures can prevent future instances of corruption. The CPIB and other regulatory agencies continue to investigate potential links between the recent cases and previous allegations of match-fixing. Singapore Adroit's participation in the semi-finals despite the suspension of some players raised concerns about the enforcement of disciplinary actions. The club's eventual disqualification underscored the consequences of failing to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by governing bodies. As investigations into match-fixing persist, the focus remains on ensuring transparency and accountability within the sport. The lifetime bans imposed on Kolchenko and Pryimak serve as a clear message to athletes and organizations about the seriousness of match manipulation. With FIBA and the BAS continuing to enforce stringent policies, the emphasis is on deterring similar misconduct in the future. The outcome of current investigations will likely shape the direction of anti-corruption efforts in Singaporean basketball moving forward.
