Težave s podganami bodo v Dupleku reševali tudi s premestitvijo zbirnega centra

The municipality of Duplek has announced additional measures to address rodent infestation issues around its waste collection centre, including relocating the facility. The problem was identified approximately one month ago when local authorities became aware of the presence of rodents near the site. The municipal administration immediately contacted the operator, Čisto mesto Ptuj, which manages the area, and expects them to take all necessary steps to resolve the issue promptly and permanently. According to the municipality, the operator, which also oversees eight other waste collection centres, confirmed that the rodent issue is currently limited to the Duplek waste collection centre. In their statement, they noted that while the centre itself does not collect waste that could attract rodents, the source of the problem might lie in the surrounding area. They also mentioned that there has been a significant increase in the volume of waste brought to the centre recently, with users often bringing quantities exceeding its spatial capacity. To date, two special pest control operations have already been conducted at the site during July. A third operation is planned, involving a different contractor who will use alternative types of bait and poison, as rodents can become resistant to certain substances over time. The municipality stated it will monitor the implementation of these measures and expects prompt and lasting resolution of the situation. The area around the waste collection centre has been thoroughly cleaned, all waste removed, and an additional 30 cubic metres of bins for bulky waste have been installed. Enhanced oversight of waste reception, additional warnings to users, and other organisational measures are also being implemented. Users visiting the waste collection centre are urged to strictly follow the instructions of staff and adhere to rules regarding proper sorting and disposal of waste. It was noted that bags containing packaging from households should not be brought to the centre, as such packaging is collected through regular door-to-door services. Users also have the option of using the service for bulky waste removal directly at their place of residence, and this will be encouraged at the centre. In a comment on the municipality’s Facebook page, Mayor Mitja Horvat explained that a new mandate includes plans for relocation of the waste collection centre. He acknowledged that although many years passed without significant problems related to illegal dumping or rodent infestations, the current location has become problematic for residents nearby. The mayor added that efforts to find options for expanding the waste collection centre have been ongoing with the municipality for some time, aiming to secure a long-term solution. As part of the plan, a long-term adjustment or relocation of the waste collection centre is proposed. However, the exact location of the new centre is still unknown, according to information provided by the municipality.
