The contract, valued at over R5.6 billion, was intended to upgrade train stations with electronic security gates, public address systems, and digital displays. However, investigators allege that the money was siphoned off to fund Montana’s property purchases. The SIU’s findings trace a clear financial path connecting the properties to the ISAMS contract. For the Waterkloof property, the SIU noted that R4 million was transferred from TMM Holdings to Precise Trade and Invest 02, a company linked to the TMM group. From there, R2.25 million was sent to attorneys handling the property transfer. Similarly, the Hurlingham property was reportedly funded through a complex chain of transfers involving Precise Trade and Invest, Midtownbrace, a Botswana-based company, and TMM Holdings. These transfers totaled around R13.5 million, with the final amount reaching the attorneys overseeing the purchase. Montana has responded to the SIU’s actions, disputing the claim that a formal preservation order has been issued. He stated that the matter remains in the early stages of legal proceedings and that no definitive order has yet been granted. In a social media post, Montana criticized the SIU for prematurely declaring success and suggested that the unit might have rushed to announce the freeze without verifying whether he had formally opposed the application. He emphasized that the legal process requires the SIU to first obtain a provisional order before initiating further steps, and that he had filed a notice of opposition within the stipulated timeframe. Despite Montana’s objections, the SIU maintains that the Special Tribunal followed proper procedures in granting the interim preservation order. A spokesperson for the SIU confirmed that the Tribunal has ordered Montana and other respondents to appear on August 11, 2026, to justify why the order should not become permanent.
